Spring Term 2026
Welcome to Year 2.
Our topic for this term is Where to now?
For your information, a curriculum overview grid showing how this will link in with other subjects is shown below.
In our RELIGION lessons this term, we will continue our Lighting the Path journey, exploring:
Branch 3: Galilee to Jerusalem where we will learn about Jesus as he travels to Jerusalem, discovering the miracles he performed and the messages he shared with his followers. Children will reflect on how Jesus showed love and forgiveness and how we can follow his example in our own lives.
Branch 4: Desert to Garden where we will explore the events of Lent and Easter, learning about Jesus’ time in the desert, his final days in Jerusalem, and the joy of the resurrection. The children will consider the themes of temptation, sacrifice and hope and how they relate to our daily lives.
In ENGLISH our first theme this term is Journey. We will be exploring the texts Oh, The Places You’ll Go by Dr. Seuss and Hattie Peck by Emma Levey. Through these stories, the children will write poems about journeys, create recounts of the stories and develop their descriptive language. We will further look at Moon Mouse, where the children will write their own instructions of how to fly a rocket and recounts linked to the story.
Later in the term, our theme will be Inside Out. We will be reading The Disgusting Sandwich by Gareth Edwards and The Pig’s Knickers by Jonathan Emmett. The children will learn to write clear instructions and imaginative narratives inspired by these humorous and engaging stories.
We will finish the term by exploring The Titanic, writing recounts inspired by this historical event.
In MATHEMATICS we will be developing our understanding of multiplication and division, money, length and height and capacity, mass and temperature. The children will continue to build confidence in solving practical problems and applying their learning to real-life situations.
