Nursery Summer Term.

Welcome to back to Nursery for our Summer Term. Hope everyone is safe and well!

When we return to school, will begin our new term by settling the children back in to the  environment, and  assessing what the children know. This will all be done through play and by following the children’s interests and using what they enjoy. We understand that some children will need reassurance and support in returning to the Nursery setting so this will be dione through lots of encouragement and with our care.

We will continue to learn through play so we will talk to your children and model vocabulary at this time with questioning, and we will also demonstrate social skills like sharing and turn taking. We will continue with formal directed teaching sessions of letters and sounds to encourage listening skills and some early mark making. We will be using the Ruth Miskin Read Write Inc resources  to teach phonics. YouTube clips are available for parents to help support children at home

A lot of our play will still be outdoors, hoping that we have some sunshine,so please continue to provide suitable outdoor clothing which may get wet or muddy! We use lots of water play in the outdoors so children may need the odd change of clothes

Our Religion topic will be Good News where we think about Jesus being alive again and spreading his Word. Then we will celebrate the Wonderful World around us. We will participate in child focussed liturgies incorporating stories about Jesus and God’s word.

Literacy will still be done through play and will continue to  have a strong focus on communication and talk. We will listen to and explore some stories about Animals, each week looking at a different habitat and the animals that live thre, ie. Pets,, Farm animals, Jungle and Zoo, Underwater creatures and Minibeasts . Children will learn about story structure and will join in some repeated phrases. If you could share these stories at home that would be great!

Outdoor physical play is very important in developing the muscles needed to make marks and begin early writing.

Maths will also be done by counting, sorting and looking for patterns in the indoor and outdoor environments

Anything you would like to ask or contribute that will help with your child’s learning journey will be welcomed.

We enjoy watching YouTube clips to bring these topics alive, which you can also share at home. Have a look at :
